For five years, the UK’s media and politicians have talked about a “cost-of-living crisis”.
But that’s not what it is.
Crises are short-lived, and often unforeseen. Allowing years and years to go by with millions of households on the brink of destitution is not a crisis. It’s a cost-of-living scandal – and it’s about to get worse, as the war in Iran sends fuel and food costs soaring.
Again, low-income households and communities will be hardest hit. That means the work we do is absolutely vital right now – but, like other charities, we are stretched to our limits. To rise to the challenges ahead, we need you to stand with us.
The Your Local Pantries we support in 120 UK neighbourhoods prevent people from falling into acute crisis. 70% of members who previously had to skip meals are now doing so less often – and many others are now less reliant on emergency food banks.
We know from our work that a great many churches want to do more to tackle injustices and to speak up on social issue. Our new Just Church programme will work with 100 churches to help deepen their commitment and impact.
